The arena is our Player versus Player (PvP) battleground, where you can try out your latest build against other players’ creations, one-on-one or as part of a group battle.

Character Creation

We have 3 tier brackets you can enter:

  • Level 5
  • Level 12
  • Level 20

For all tiers, the primary character creation rules are the same:

  • Ability scores use Standard array or Point Buy (no rolling for stats)
  • No Unearthed Arcana (UA) or Homebrew
  • Tasha’s Cauldron character creation and bonus options are allowed
  • Fixed Hit Point calculation method (DDB default, no rolling for HP)
  • You start with Class + Background Equipment
  • You get no starting gold and cannot sell or purchase anything

Character Classes

Banned Classes

  • Chronurgy Wizard (Critical Role)

Amended Classes

  • Cleric – Divine Intervention: Level 20 clerics have a 50% chance of succeeding. It can be used to cast any non-banned spell with a casting time of 1 action from any class list without concentration required.
  • Moon Archdruid – Has four uses of their wild shape rather than an infinite amount.

Amended Feats

  • Aberrant Dragonmark – You don’t get the optional boon at level 10+

Magic Items

You start with free magic items based on what Tier you play:

  • Level 5:
    • Two common magic items
    • Two uncommon magic items
    • One common or uncommon Consumable
  • Level 12:
    • One common magic item
    • One uncommon magic item
    • One rare magic item
    • One Consumable up to rare rarity
  • Level 20:
    • One common magic item
    • One uncommon magic item
    • One rare magic item
    • One very rare magic item
    • One legendary magic item
    • One Consumable of any rarity
  • Your free magic items can be consumables

Banned items

  • Potion of Giant Size
  • Wave
  • Bag of Devouring
  • Gem of Brightness
  • Bag of Beans
  • Instant fortress
  • Any item replicates the wish effect (Luck Blade, Ring of Three Wishes…)
  • Artifacts
  • Firearms, Guns, or Future Tech

Amended items

  • Vorpal sword – Does not instantaneously kill PC but can instantaneously kill summons, polymorph, true polymorph, and shape change bringing the player back to their original form.
  • Cube of Force – Is a legendary item.
  • A broom flying – This is a rare item; furthermore requires to be held by one or more hands.
  • Pixie dust – can be washed off by water (edited)

Banned Spells

  • Wish
  • Invulnerability
  • Power Word Kill
  • Power Word Stun
  • Imprisonment
  • Feeblemind
  • Simulacrum
  • Magic Jar
  • Temporal Shunt

Amended Spells

  • Plane Shift – Functions as Dimension door or Etherealness – Prismatic Wall – Is a concentration spell, furthermore passing through and remaining in the wall does harm even designated creatures(including the caster)
  • Dispel Magic – Range: 60ft, requires you to see the target/area of effect
  • Geas – Spell ends if the target is damaged or is the subject of a harmful spell
  • Silvery Barbs – Consumes a 3rd level spell slot
  • True polymorph – Range: Self
  • Etherealness – Duration: Your constitution modifier rounds (edited)

If you are targeted by one of the following spells, you can choose to either attempt a saving throw or make a contested ability check (both players roll), choosing either your Constitution ability modifier or your spellcasting ability (against the caster’s spellcasting ability):

  • Hold/Dominate Person/Monster
  • Sanctuary
  • Command
  • (Mass) Suggestion
  • (Tasha’s) Hideous Laughter
  • Psychic Scream
  • Bestow Curse
  • Contagion
  • Polymorph
  • Eyebite
  • Flesh to Stone
  • Raulothim’s Psychic Lance
  • Banishment-like spells and effects (edited)

Basic Rules

  • The top of the map is 120ft, and the bottom of the map is 60ft underground
  • Total CR of any additional tokens on the board per player (familiars, summons, etc.) must be less than or equal to your character level
  • The maximum number of tokens per player is 6
  • You will start on the ground regardless of flying/ swimming/ burrowing speed.
  • Any magic items that require a command word or action to activate are considered inactive at the start of play.
  • You cannot destroy magic items (it does not promote fun)
  • At the start of play, describe what the opponent sees and what they might guess are magic items if they are apparent

House Rules

  • Glancing Blows – If a to-hit roll matches your current AC, damage from the attack is halved.
  • Drinking potions is an action or bonus action, your choice
  • Rolling natural 20 is auto-success on attack roll/ability check/saving throw
